2013 - Completion of the MAET Program
Students must complete four additional Master's level courses following "Year Two" of the MAET program. This final grouping of courses consists of two electives, CEP 820 (in order to get the NP endorsement on your teaching certificate) as well as a final capstone course. Please click on the links below for some samples of the work I completed during this final portion of the program. (This portion of my portfolio is currently under construction)
CEP 807: Educational Technology Capstone
Fall 2013 - M. Koehler
My final course for the MAET program allowed me to focus on building a web-based portfolio to showcase my growth in the program. The most significant artifact is the very portfolio your are visiting right now. This course also showed me the capabilities of WordPress as a Course Management System, as well as Piazza as an online forum. I was able to see other students' portfolios and also receive feedback on my own work, which was a very enriching experience. I also wrote my final essay documenting my journey and the courses that had the most impact on me during my time in the MAET program.
CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Summer 2013 - S. Sawaya
I really enjoyed this course because it helped me to create an online class for my students. The learning was therefore very relevant and meaningful for me. The class that I created is called "Digital Portfolio" and it is an 8th grade Computer Technology course that follows the NETS-S and integrates cross-curricular learning and reflective writing while also allowing students to learn basic computer programs.
Course 2.0 Screencast
This is my first video update for my online class that I was creating. It shows my class website using Edmodo, as well as the syllabus I created for the class. I used Jing to capture the video and uploaded it to screencast.com for easy sharing. Click on the photo to view the video.
Final Course and Reflections
This is a screenshot of my Eighth Grade Digital Portfolio course at the conclusion of CEP 820. I also developed a detailed syllabus and chronicled my journey as I created the course in a developer's notebook. I also summarized my thoughts and decisions throughout the process as well some advice to others creating an online or blended course in another document. The experience of developing a web-based course was truly rewarding and a wonderful opportunity for learning and application.
TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Summer 2013 - J. Knight
This course really helped me to increase my knowledge of teaching reading skills to my students. As a middle school History teacher, I have struggled to find ways to make Historical reading relevant and meaningful to students. This course gave me more tools to help my students be successful in History class.
Video Introduction Project
I enjoyed creating my introduction for this class using Animoto. It allowed me to use some recent pictures from both my classroom and a mission trip to tell my story. I also liked that I could choose a song that already existed on the website, or upload my own music. Click on the photo to view the video.
CEP 816: Teaching with Technology Across the Curriculum
Summer 2013 - R. Spiro
I thoroughly enjoyed this course mainly because of the high level of instruction and communication by Rand Spiro. During the course, we were challenged to evaluate the current state of technology integration in the classroom for our nation as a whole as well as on an individual level. Readings such as Will Richardson's Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Other Powerful Web Tools for Classrooms and Mark Bauerlein's The Digital Divide really challenged my thinking and pushed me to take my teaching to another level this school year.
Instructional Dream Project
For our final assignment for this course, we were asked to research a topic using a non-linear method. I chose the topic of blogging in the classroom. Click on the photo to read about my adventure and my ideas for integrating blogging into my classroom.
